Hello Diary,
Today at Doctor’s Choice Pharmacy, a young woman came in looking for relief from a fever. She seemed a bit worried and said, “I’ve been running a fever for the past two days, and I’ve heard Acetaminophen can help, but I’m not sure how much to take or how often.”
I reassured her that Acetaminophen is a great option for lowering fevers and relieving mild pain, especially when taken correctly. “Acetaminophen works by reducing the body’s production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals that trigger inflammation and fever.”
We talked about dosage, and I explained that adults can typically take 500 mg every 4 to 6 hours, but it’s important not to exceed 4,000 mg in a 24-hour period to avoid liver damage. I also mentioned that it’s safe on an empty stomach, unlike some other pain relievers.
She asked if there were any side effects to worry about, and I reassured her that Acetaminophen is generally very safe when used as directed. However, it’s always important to check labels, especially if she’s taking other medications, to avoid accidental overdose.
She left feeling confident in her decision, ready to manage her fever, and I felt great knowing I helped her choose the right option for her needs.
Until tomorrow, Rania – Your Friendly Pharmacist at Doctor’s Choice Pharmacy
