Today at Doctor’s Choice Pharmacy, we received a compounded prescription from a functional medicine provider that read:
🧾 Levothyroxine 20 mcg / Liothyronine 3 mcg – compounded capsule, once daily

Later, the patient called with a familiar concern:
“Hi Rania, I’ve been on levothyroxine for years, but I never quite feel right. My doctor switched me to this compounded thyroid mix—what’s the difference?”

I explained, “That’s a great question. Levothyroxine (T4) is the standard thyroid hormone replacement. But some people don’t convert T4 into the active form, Liothyronine (T3), very efficiently.
